About Food Webs, Food Chains, and Energy Pyramids
A food web is a big group of food chains mixed together to show the cycle of food in a type of environment. It starts with a producer. A producer is the starter, every food web, food chain, or energy pyramid starts with a producer. Most producers are plants. A producer makes its own food by photosynthesis. Then comes a primary consumer, which always eats a producer. The primary consumer only gets 10% of the original 100%. This then means he gets 10% energy. Then there is the secondary consumer, which eats the primary consumer. The primary consumer only had 10% energy so the secondary only gets 1% energy. Then there is a tertiary consumer, who eats secondary consumers or other tertiary consumers. They only get 0.1% or lower.
